Issues and my positions:

2/27/2014

State Sovereignty:  My stance falls in line with the Tenth Amendment, “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a republican form of government…” States are best ran by the states, not by a federal legislature that does not know the how the local economic or social environments function. We must remember that our sovereign State governments got together to institute a Federal government.  The Federal government should act in the best interest of the State and people of the state – not vice versa.

Gay Marriage / Cohabitation:   I believe there are two views: one religious, and one as public policy. Personally, I would not perform a ceremony for a homosexual couple because I believe marriage is between a man and women. But as a matter of public policy, I do not believe the government should have a role in regulating marriage or cohabitation. The only rights associated are the rights everyone is endowed with as “American Citizens,” all men are created equal; including freedom from discrimination towards race, age, gender, religion, height, weight, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Eminent Domain and/or Forced Annexation:  I oppose forced annexation; but, will support voluntary annexation only when a proper referendum is established and vote by ballot has been won.

Property Taxes/Income Taxes/Sales Taxes:   As a citizen and head of family that pays an overabundance of taxes, I am opposed to any tax.  Although, fully aware that our government needs revenue, I find the flat tax and the fair tax more appealing than the current double and triple taxation system we currently have in place.

Government Spending:  The size of government must be decreased substantially; thus, reducing spending by removing bloat, pet projects and misuse of funds.

Gun Laws: I believe in the defense of individual rights and oppose laws restricting gun ownership.

Public Education:  Reform is required in our public school systems, remove the bloat in our school systems, minimize, and consolidate township / school corporations.

Social Security:  My retirement is my responsibility - it is the responsibility of the individual, not the government.   Tax payers should be given the choice to “Opt out.”

Healthcare/Medicare:  Government involvement in our healthcare system has done nothing but increase the costs of care and drive out the cost reducing competition by removing barriers to affordable medicines.

Welfare: Our Welfare system is lacking and in need of revamping.  We should match dollar to dollar contribution on charitable contributions and family assistance; then structure the welfare to teach independence by providing vocational and occupational education assistance.  Build up the people that need assistance not making them dependent on government handouts, but through self-empowerment.

Local Township Consolidation and/or Fire Dept Consolidation: We need to increase our dependency on a “on call” professional volunteer staff.  Consolidate townships, and reduce the bloat –in this instance we have to follow the lead of the majority of states.

Minimum Wage and/or Maximum Wage: I do not oppose removing wage standards and allowing our American drive and ingenuity dictate how much we should get paid.  The Minimum wage was attempted in 1933 and established in 1938 as a recovery tool.  If I drop out of high school and did not attend a trade school or college, I will be paid less than the person that made the self-sacrifices to earn a higher wage.  However, minimum wage is a good mechanism to curtail the greedy and the exploiters from taking advantage of the less experienced and uneducated. Fix the root issue and this problem will go away.

Business Regulations:  I favor removing all business regulations except for those that protect life, liberty and the health of an individual.

Smoking Bans: Remove the bans this is impeding individual liberties.  Let the market of consumer demand drive the choice, businesses are free to lose any amount of business they want, if the social sympathy is to not smoke, business will be forced to change their business model or suffer

Abortion:  100% Pro-Life, no government support.

Immigration:  The Bravard’s were French Huguenots who moved to Ulster County in Ireland. Then around 1690, Jean Paul Bravard immigrated to America with his family. In America, his son John Bravard settled in Cecil County, Maryland.  John soon married Mary the daughter of the McKnitts in 1711. In 1830 the Bravard’s moved to Indiana.  We should make the U.S. immigration and naturalization process as easy and quick as possible; but, still uphold our laws pertaining to illegals.

Military/National Defense/Foreign Wars:  As a Veteran of Kosovo, Desert Storm, Operation Southern Watch, I support our troops overseas and at home.  I want to see our troops brought home and our (US) military and fiscal presence overseas decreased.  The unofficial practice of “keeping it on the other shores” is outdated and as we have seen – does not work.
