Rules of Life: to help keep my life focused and structured...Physical Body: I seek to regularly care for my physical temple through healthy eating habits, consistent exercise, and sufficient amounts of sleep, respecting my God-given limits. Prayer: I will set aside time daily to meet with God in prayer and to dwell in His presence. I will embrace many forms of prayer including spontaneous prayer, fixed-hour prayer (the Divine Hours), journaling, prayer walks, and centering prayer. Sabbath: Each week, I will set aside a 24-hour period for Sabbath rest, structuring my time around prayer and play. This is a day to slow down, contemplate God’s goodness, and be refreshed. Scripture: I will spend time each day in Scripture, seeking God’s face and listening to His voice. Maturing in Christ requires a life where we read, memorize, meditate, enjoy, study, and obey God’s Word. Serving Servant: I will use my gifts and talents to help build God’s kingdom. I will seek to bring God glory in all that I do and not just in those things thought to be more “spiritual.” Silence and Solitude: To mentality recharge and focus, I will spend at least one full day a month in silence with God; someplace away home to be alone with God for the day. Worship: My relationship with God is always personal, but never private. My family and I worship weekly to praise God, as well as to encourage one another and build each other up. Accountability: I will invite others to hold me accountable to living the way of Jesus and give them permission to speak truth into our life. When we do this for others, we do it with lots of grace. We also seek out a spiritual friend (Barnabas/Mary) that we can regularly share and pray with about the details of our life. Clarity of Mind: I will avoid all media that promotes “garbage” whether it is radio, written, or television. I will pursue purity in my marriage and encourage others to do the same. Evangelize: I will point others to a deep, personal relationship with Jesus - to make this good news known, always with humility and love, in the places I live, work, and dwell. Finances: I will model simplicity and generosity in how my family uses our money and possessions. We manage our material resources in a manner that honors God – to show that we serve God and not our humanistic self. Hospitality: We live with a real openness toward one another, and look for simple ways to express that weekly. Whether that’s meeting around a meal table, inviting someone to hang out with our friends or family, or sharing stories and laughter; we are intentional about making good, lasting friendships centered on Christ. Love my neighbor: I will strive to bless at least one person’s life (big or small) in any given 24-hour period of time. See people through the Gospel where every person is valued as someone created in the image of God and someone whom Christ Jesus died for. |
